Rules & Procedures

Title	Detail
Alternates	Two players from each qualifier with the lowest scores not qualifying will comprise the Championship alternate list. The eight alternates will be ranked in order based on a blind draw of the four Qualifying Rounds, (i.e. 1st and 5th from the first round drawn, the 2nd and 6th from the second round drawn, etc.). If an exempt player withdraws from the Championship, alternates will be admitted in rank order. In the event that a qualifier participant withdraws from the Championship, the top alternate from that same qualifying site will fill the void spot.
Notice of Withdrawal	If a player withdraws from a Qualifying Round, they must notify the Official in charge of the event promptly in order to insure a standby player has a fair opportunity to play. Failure to comply may result in disqualification from future Colorado Open Golf Foundation events.
Pace of Play Policy	Throughout both stages of the Championship, the player must play without undue delay. Individual penalties will be issued to violators. Click here to view entire policy.
Rules & Procedures	Rules of Golf Play will be governed by the 2008-2009 Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA. Local rules and conditions of competition will be included in each player’s registration packet. The Colorado Open Rules Committee is comprised of staff and volunteer Rules Officials from the Colorado Golf Association, Colorado Women’s Golf Association, the Colorado Section PGA, and the Colorado Open Golf Foundation. This Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein and shall settle all questions and disputes related to the Qualifying Round and the Championship—their decision is final. Golf Balls & Equipment Only brands of golf balls listed on the USGA’s current List of Conforming Golf Balls and driver heads listed on the USGA’s Conforming Driver Head List may be used. The optional condition prescribed in Appendix I of the Rules of Golf shall be in effect. Dress Requirements Throughout both stages of the Championship, players and their caddies must be neat in appearance with respect to clothing and personal grooming. Players in the Championship are required to wear collared or mock-neck shirts and LONG PANTS; however, ALL players may wear appropriate length shorts during the Qualifying Rounds. Caddies must also wear collared or mock-neck shirts, but are permitted to wear appropriate length shorts. During the Championship, caddies are required to wear the provided bib at all times to designate their status as an official caddie. Denim, t-shirts and tank tops are expressly prohibited. The Committee in charge of the competition decides whether or not this requirement has been met and has the authority to withdraw the entry of a player who does not comply. Footwear Footwear is required for both players and caddies. Shoes with traditionally-designed spikes (regardless of composition) or spikes, regardless of design, comprised either entirely or partially of metal (if such metal may come in contact with the course) are prohibited during the stipulated round. Penalty for breach: DISQUALIFICATION. Conduct Unbecoming conduct by a player or his or her caddie, reported to the Committee before, during or after a competitor’s round, may be cause for rejecting a player’s entry or action under Rule 33-7. Objectionable conduct includes club throwing, foul language, abuse of the golf course or course property, abuse of officials, alcohol/drug impaired behavior, or any conduct unbecoming a lady or gentleman. Players may also be suspended from playing in future Colorado Open Golf Foundation events. Time of Starting The Note under Rule 6-3 and the Optional Condition for time of starting prescribed in Appendix I of the Rules of Golf will be in effect. Cellular Phones and Pagers The use of cellular phones and/or pagers is NOT permitted on the competition course during the Championship, unless authorized by the Committee or in the event of a medical emergency. This includes players, caddies, and spectators. Distance Measuring Devices Throughout both stages of the Championship, a player may obtain distance information by a device that measures distance ONLY. However, if during a stipulated round, a players uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his or her play (e.g. gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which penalty is DISQUALIFICATION, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.
Spectator Policy	Spectators are highly encouraged to follow players as a gallery during the HealthONE Colorado Women's Open, HealthONE Colorado Open and HealthONE Colorado Senior Open Championships. Individuals assume all risks incidental to spectating at these events and release HealthONE, the Colorado Open Golf Foundation, Colorado Golf Association (CGA), Colorado Women’s Golf Association (CWGA), and Colorado Section of the PGA Boards of Directors, Trustees, and Tournament Committees from any and all liabilities. PLEASE NOTE: Rule 8-1 in the Rules of Golf states that a player may receive advice only from her partner or caddie. The penalty for giving advice is two strokes in stroke play. The player is responsible for following this rule. During play, minimal contact is permitted between spectators and players (or their caddies). Spectators must walk and are asked to stay on the cart paths when possible. Spectators with Disabilities: Spectators requiring motorized transportation due to severe physical disabilities must notify the Colorado Open Golf Foundation prior to the Championship and receive permission to rent a cart from the Tournament Director. Spectators that are granted use of a cart must pay the cart fee to the host site and a Handicap Flag will be placed on the cart to notify all officials that the cart use has been approved. YOUR COOPERATION IS APPRECIATED!
Tie Breaking	A hole-by-hole playoff will decide ties for the last qualifying position as well as the two alternates. The playoff will be conducted immediately following completion of the Qualifying Round at a hole determined by the Committee.
Weather Evacuation Plan	Lightning and severe weather are dangerous in Colorado. In an effort to better protect players, caddies, officials, and spectators, please note the following: Read the USGA Lightning Poster posted at the scoreboard. Players should be aware that they have the right to stop play if they think lightning threatens them even though the Committee may not have authorized it by signal (Rules 6-8 and 33-2d). The following signals will be used: For Immediate Suspension Due to a Dangerous Situation - one (1) prolonged note of air horn; For all other suspensions of play -- three (3) consecutive notes of air horn, repeated. For Resumption of Play -- two (2) short notes of air horn, repeated. When play has been suspended due to a dangerous situation (i.e., lightning), players MUST discontinue play immediately and proceed to the clubhouse or nearest evacuation shuttle. Players, caddies, and tournament officials will have priority for evacuation shuttles. Spectators will only be permitted to ride in these shuttles if space is available. Before taking shelter, players should mark their balls (if suspension is during play of a hole). When play has been suspended for other reasons (i.e., darkness or course unplayable), players in between the play of two holes may not begin play of the next hole; players in the process of playing a hole may complete play of that hole only. Players should mark their balls (if applicable) and return to the clubhouse. When play has been suspended (regardless of the type of suspension), players may not resume play until the Committee so orders (Rule 6-8b). Penalty for breach of this rule is Disqualification. NOTE: All practice areas are closed during this type of suspension.
